This is a place for those of us who aren't hard core hikers but love to get outdoors and enjoy parks, historic neighborhoods and beauty of every kind. Most of our favorite places are kid and elder frendly

Greetings, Earthlings!

This is the community for PublicEarth. It is important to know that this is a separate website, designed for the active users of the PublicEarth site, but fully separate. This means that joining here is not the same as joining there. We apologize for difficulties or confusion this creates.

Here, the main attraction are our BLOGS, FORUMS and GROUPS, although we maintain our site FAQ here, as well as some background pages on us.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS FOR US -- use the Forums and start a discussion if you don't see your question already being discussed.

Click around and have fun. We hope this will increase your enjoyment of (and contribution to) this giant community wiki of place information.

Simplification.

Hi Friends,
Over the next few weeks we are beginning a process of radical simplification of the website. For the most part, we don't think you'll miss some of the things we're going to subordinate (usually this will mean moving links from being prominent to being slightly more out of sight). Today's (Jan 27) New Features!

Hi Earthlings.

We've made a handful of helpful additions to the site and we'd appreciate your feedback. First, we added a simple way to add locations ("Create") using an address. It also works for lat/long. This should make adding places much easier.

Second, we revised the Search & Explore page - hopefully making browsing easier. The Category Browser has been promoted on the page - so its easier to find. And while you can still select a number of categories to look at on the map, to… Continue

iPhone App Available Today: PublicEarth "Pro Tools"!

Our first iPhone application was made available at the iTunes store today - it's a mini version of the website, specially designed for our fans and power users. It includes most of the great features of the website, including easy searching for cool things near your mobile location and creating new places on the fly, along with photos or descriptions of places.

ProTools is just the first of a series of simple applications that utilize the PublicEarth wiki database.

With ProTools on the iPhone,… Continue

Tonight's Release 12/11: Introducing PlaceBook

Greetings Earthlings...

Something has shifted in the way we've been talking about, and using, PublicEarth -- and we think this will help everyone: What your iTunes library is to your music... what your Facebook friends are to your social sphere, what your Netflix queue is to your movies, what your Flickr albums are to your photos... this is what PublicEarth is to your "places" -- we're your personal library, your mobile atlas. We call this your PlaceBook.

By having a single place… Continue
